I like where your heads at and yes no one should be denigrated even if their opinion goes against the popular theme , however, one should not confuse trolling and for want of a better word, sulking I think we are all aware of what a troll does and why they do it but I’ve seen more samples of forums being started and then the thread deteriorates because the opinions are not to the OPs liking and/or the thread has not garnered what the OP is seeking, often reinforcement of their initial OP I think it’s very important to differentiate between the two and for contributors, when they disagree with a post, address the post and the opinion stated, not start personal attacks on the posters profile or their personality If one wants change, then they have to instigate it first

Wanted to add there are a few personalities that can grind peoples gears. And grinding goes into overdrive when they put up topics that adds grit into the gear boxes. Yes, we should change our oil when that happens. But we soldier on thinking our running gear is European quality when in fact when the box drops out the arse end we find we have a Chinese knockoff that's incapable of getting the traction to get through the bullshit. I think ''troll'' has become an overused term these days. On this and other platforms where discussions are had, differences of opinion arise. Most adults can withstand someone challenging their opinion and a good back-and-forth can be had. You might not change my opinion, nor I yours, but we have at least had a good chinwag about it. It is only when people start taking it personally or making their comments personal that it ventures into troll territory. I think every regular poster on here has dropped the ball in that regard at least once, myself included - it's pistols at dawn. There was a thread here the other day (which has since been taken down) where people started having personal digs - again, myself included - and it turned into a free-for-all. The mods sensibly called time on it. And let's face it, the bunfight threads are the most fun to read. Pretty much all of the regular forum posters that have responded on this thread are guilty of taking it too far from time to time. I think if we all tried to minimize how much we decide to take it to the personal level, we'll all have a good time here. By the same token though, there are some people on here that are a little bit fragile and cannot tolerate people challenging their views, or calling them on their sometimes blatant hypocrisy. They too are guilty of making things personal, and are guilty of what I call reverse-trolling.

So many people in here with brilliantly objective open minded stances, Pipsqueak, Seachange, Freaky, about a wide range of topics in here interspersed with a few who just either don't get it, hate being proven wrong or deliberately stir the pot illiciting that personal attack. I agree that everyone is allowed their own opinion and the right to voice it, god knows mine is full of crap sometimes but at least i'm allowed the opportunity to spill my guts in here if i feel the need to. As DP said, objectivity is the key is understanding that everyone is allowed an opinion no matter how removed from your stance it is. These 'trolls' for lack of a better word are the usual cheap shot type of people who take no responsibility for their actions or any personalised hurt they may cause, keyboard cowboys if you will indulge me. In here i guess the easiest way to deal with them is to either block or report them if it becomes really personal. I like others have suffered from the hands of 'bullies', for another description, so i understand the pain it can cause but i have learned to ignore what people try to say about me and keep a clear level headed approach to robust discussions. Understandably not everyone has learned to deal with it in the same manner so please people, be mindful sometimes in your responses to others. I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but i've learned to cool my jets for smarter, clearer responses so i hope others might take a leaf from the same book. I think it might bc Anti is suggesting some examples of what you consider trolling might upset some of the regular posters as you may quote some of their work. I assume. I don’t agree that FreakyFun’s examples are trolling. I think that’s someone showing their true feelings and colours. It may not be nice or open minded of them (haven’t read the thread but I already feel I know who that couple would be). Sounds to me they are not deliberately trying to rile people up on purpose. To me a troll will be off topic or say something just to be controversial even if they don’t personally believe it. People have called me a troll on here. Sometimes I do, it is a little bit amusing. 😇

I highly doubt I would be the only poster here considered to be a troll....and there’s some truth in it in that I have indeed made such statements given that I walk such a fine line between satire and trolling...both of which are designed to provoke an emotional response. Allow me to show examples of both.... One of my trolling comments was on the coffee shop thread regarding the blonde Canadian lady that received a bill from vicpol.... and then again in my response to Luckdragon....the comments were personal to those I mentioned....I also know that luckdragon has broad, strong shoulders to have just eye rolled, probably gave me the finger through her screen and thought “fuck you I ain’t responding....” god love her cotton or woollen socks... Satire on the other hand for me takes the piss out of things in a much more generic sense and exaggerates either a similar or an identical relatable scenario...examples of this would be “The 12th Man” albums, and the John Clarke/Brian Dorr combination that used to feature on channel 9’s ACA.... An example of a comment of mine would be the dreaded “turkey slap” comment.....a scenario to be painted would be you’re out with a date, a first date. Things are going well, the two people have been teasing each other all night with their intellect and sense of humour, a little flirting creeps in and the sparkles in their eyes both start to spark....an awkward ish silence comes over them, when he all of a sudden stands, walks over to his date and proceeds to unzip and bounces his cock off her forehead like a sprung jack in the box.... Hardly personal but takes the absolute piss out of the scenario and it’s accompanying stupidity as it just....wouldn’t....happen.... And given that it’s a scenario that could have the offending turkey slapper’s gender reversed, it’s not personal...it’s situational.... A fine line and distinction between the two....but it’s a line I dare to walk.... It’s also a line I’m happy with copping some blowback from..... So sweetjen, it’s not that I think it’s all about me entirely, it’s just I’m willing to put my hand up and allow anyone the opportunity to label me as such without deflection (as I would normally)as this thread has such a broad context it seems aptly appropriate for people to do it here..... Yeah my understanding is that a troll is generally someone who posts something unrelated and controversial just to get a reaction, an antagonist posts something related and controversial just to get a reaction... I do love reading these forums. Each OP has their reasons for posting their thoughts and I find the different perspectives interesting, sometimes helpful, more often simply entertaining. It's a good way to see into a person's head as well and can save time on the vetting process. It IS a shame of course when things get off topic or some precious snowflakes get offended by an innocent joke or misunderstanding, causing a bunch of people to jump on the bandwagon but that's typical of all online forums these days and a good reason to stop at page 3 of the comments. I’ve used Rhp on and off for years and the forums get worse each year. Entitled ones, people jumping the gun then paddle back, plain rudeness and feeling obligated to correct everyone that doesn’t have the same opinion as you and gaslighting (to mention a few)... humans make mistakes, But to be so egotistical and refuse to take responsibility for own actions/words is an indication -to me- specially on a platform that promotes openness, sharing, acceptance and inclusivity, it is disappointing to have to see many mature shells with child brains. I haven’t read the whole thread and I’m not interested in that anymore as explained above. My contribution is to address what the OP has mentioned. The snide remarks, the supposedly ‘clever’ comments and personal attacks are -in my opinion- an indication of possibly not having a purpose in life, suppressed anger and projecting being put down at some point in life. Use the right channels to vent/address your issues if that was the case. I go by two mottos when interacting with humans: Treat people the way you want to be treated. Why was it deleted and who requested it? I believe it was about the OPs behaviour from another thread, a telling example of the hypocrisy that the OP is very much against. By the fact it was deleted brings to question the integrity of the OP wrt to denigrating or taking personal slugs at posters or stirring the pot. As pipsqueak mentioned earlier, if we feel so strongly (heartache?) About an issue, should we not walk the talk? It just makes the posts more credible. An observation. That's all.

Yes and no You are correct in your first sentence. The OP opens with her OP but by page 2 , the OP makes a comment under the heading “examples” which belies her asking for us all to “keep it fun” , hence my comment that follows after okeys post Your second comment though is incorrect. I naturally read FF post (now gone along with a few others which is why the thread is a bit confusing) and I went looking for that quote on the thread that she mentioned so I could read it myself cause I don’t remember seeing it before and understand what she was referring to (the surrounding posts) . I have a bad habit of forgetting to “follow a topic” so I have to go looking I may have missed it or it may be deleted but I didn’t see it, so I actually didn’t really understands FF post so I didn’t comment. I wish it hadn’t been removed. I didn’t see anything offensive written there but I guess someone did I think the OP is confused as Annie said, but happy to be wrong Btw I love your hashtags And yes Seachange I agree. Why post a topic when you already know that various people will disagree ? I mean that’s human nature. One should question what they are seeking from posting in the first place, Reaffirmation ? but any subject should be open to healthy debate and thought provoking opinions, not a pissing contest And if you are truly affected by comments made by strangers on any platform be it here or any other social media platform, admit it’s causing you heartache and switch it off

But the point of a debate is differing points of view and subsequent open discussion. I found my profile was locked only by accident as the mobile app that I normally use doesn’t show much and I was completely ignorant to the issue, but I couldn’t send messages or anything it was as if I was blocked... So I was using the desktop version after sending the mods a message regarding it only to see that it had the issue located that my profile name had been rejected... Shortly after i received the confirmation from the mods that my profile name couldn’t contain the word cunt in it... So I changed it back to what I have now.... - Posted from rhpmobile

When we politely caress through the pages of these sites, is it better to say something, or nothing at all? Deciding on something to write can be trying at the best of times. Maybe methods of communication can be tabled. What the writer submits, isn't always what the reader experiences in the otherside of cyber loungeroom. I think the word troll is very mis-used these days. There is a difference between trolling and making conversation. Just because you dont agree with the "conversation" doesnt mean its trolling. Sweetjen....I have met Anti many times at Meet and Greets, as have many folk on here and I believe you could not be further from the truth with your last comments to him.
