I think that you're onto it, this type of hysteria is a symptom of the 21st century sensitivity which is becoming increasingly pervasive. The current hysteria surrounding glyphosate is another example of this. As things get "better" so too do the expectations increase. The meek will inherit the earth... IF THAT IS ALL RIGHT WITH YOU 🙊

If you drink a litre per day for 15 years ! I mean burnt toast has the potential to trigger a cancer ! I even remember when the hysterical idiocy believed microwaves would cook you from the inside out ! What disturbs me more than any one issue is the breakdown of rigorous scientific methods. An avalanche of dishonest propaganda, ethical corruption, misrepresentation in social media etc etc. We the general public struggle to discern honest scientific rigour from the background noise. Climate change, immunisation, the Murray Darling, Renewable energy, the wage gap and now 5G, important topics of public policy. The new tactic is not to debate with facts, but to swamp the topic with disinformation and then stifle any meaningful discussion that isn’t on your side by any means possible. The ransacking of the CSIRO by successive governments has removed an important voice in Australian public discourse and is a great tragedy and both sides of politics are guilty. I use a mobile and a microwave oven had my flu shot and support renewable energy, 5G bring it on.

Some people use the word radiation in the negative sense always, even when it simply means "that which radiates". Very low levels of actual radiation is emitted from most natural building materials, and many natural foods (especially those containing potassium like bananas and potatoes). Sometimes the type of radiation is actually known to harmful in larger doses, but in real life the amount is negligible. The same hysteria has been applied to everything we have in our homes. Even the old standard plugin telephone when it first came out. I actually thought the conversation around 5G risk was regarding the whole China/Huawei thing :p

I don't really have an opinion about 5G as such but thought I'd pass on some interesting stats that I picked up during my years in the Electrical Engineering field. 1. In 45 years of a HF transmitting stations operations, no single person conceived a male child. 2. In 30+ years of the Radar field at airports, no single person has conceived a female child. 5G wouldn't have the saturation or ppwer of either of those two so likely won't have a noticeable affect however, as the frequency gets higher, the power needs to go up and the number of transmitters needs to go up so that they can avoid black spots.

I don’t see any issue with it personally as I believe the frequency isn’t all that near the ionising end of the spectrum.... My understanding is that UV is more health adverse than the frequency that this band will be operating on... My only question is, is it truly worth it?? We already see pedestrians inattentive at times without utilising augmented reality gaming on our phones...and whilst I realise that 5G has other capabilities and benefits, i can’t help but wonder, why?? If 4G I can stream videos from YouTube, Netflix etc smoothly already, do we really need a faster network?? Why not just improve bandwidth capabilities on the 4G ??

Inhalation of talcum powder is supposedly strongly linked with severe adverse effects. EvIdence based science is the biggest crock of shit of our time. Vested interests rule it all and if you have blind faith in “them” looking after you because they are just so abnormally selfish and kind then you’re a damn fool. One day tin foil hats will be a coveted commodity!

What’s the alternative to evidence based science then ? Professor Google ? Women must be believed ? My mates dad says ?

The man on the street wont have a say, it will go ahead anyway. I read these articles with some interest but try and forget about them as overthinking some of these things will gnaw away at the mind. The one thing I do not agree with was the addition to fluoride in the water system. People are still going to the dentists in their droves, it certainly hasnt been beneficial to our dental health. It corrodes pipes so why have it in the water? No one was consulted, it just happened. So it wont matter how may people oppose 5G, they are wasting their time trying to fight it. Billions of people in the world, ruled by a few.......

Seriously...wait for it. It cost the taxpayers a bazilooge dollars and solves for all issues so just be good and wait for it. In the meantime, don't put any popcorn in your microwave oven and no, it's not the right kitchen appliance to open another beer even if you are stinkers and broke the pull tab ring. Microwaves and dumbass beer cans...they are the root of all evil. Oh and wait for the NBN. Wait for it. ʗɱ

Usebi it’s a sad day when you realise the faith you had in science was just as blind as the faith people hold in their leaders or their religions. There are plenty of scholars out there smarter than I that you can read about how corrupt our dear science has become (and likely always was). We are lead to believe we can trust anything that has been published as though these publications are holier than the bible, it’s a nice nativity to have. Meanwhile we shun experiential evidence that may have been “researched” over many hundreds and sometimes thousands of years. But just like the religious zealot, if you do not open your mind to being wrong you with continue your blind faith. I know as I was once a scientific zealot but have seen the corruption from the inside, it really did hurt to wake up!

If you’re at all interested then listen to some lectures of this guy: John P. A. Ioannidis is a physician-scientist and writer who has made contributions to evidence-based medicine, epidemiology, data science and clinical research. In addition, he has pioneered the field of meta-research

Yep good stuff, nothing wrong with doing better, doesn’t mean everything before it was wrong though. A lot of babies are going to be thrown out with that bath water. I’m nearly 60 buddy my skepticism and cynicism are in full bloom, you sound a bit drunk on the Ioannidis cordial, blind fanaticism I also don’t trust.

A few decades ago DDT was considered so safe that you could drink it. But now it’s a banned POP as further studies have proven how toxic it is to both man and the environment. Glyphosate was also considered so safe that you could drink it like “cool aid”. Perhaps after further studies and long term exposure, it may emerge that 5G was not so safe after all. We believe in the precautionary principle and that is , to err on the side of caution and to rather assume that something is potentially toxic / unsafe, until such time as it has proven to be safe. We have watched as pesticides / fungicides / herbicides previously believed to be safe, are moved from the green(harmless) status ( on GlobalGap / EuropGap & WHO list ) through to amber and then orange. Every year more and more that previously were green status are removed off the list and banned, as further studies have proven that they were not that safe after all.

SSE, I’m with you on this one. It definitely warrants further investigation but the simple fact is, unless we actually do the experiments & research ourselves we can never fully trust it. This reminds me somewhat of the debate over whether or not cigarettes are dangerous...it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

The anti 5G movement is parallel to the anti-vax movement Give a person access to the internet and they will search for the type of information to justify an incorrect belief. Then they will surround themselves with people of similar beliefs which will offer validation from like-minded people to provide comfort that they’re not alone In this regard, the internet is making the world dumber, and the voices of the ill informed, louder.

Quoting 'SSExplorer' Usebi it’s a sad day when you realise the faith you had in science was just as blind as the faith people hold in their leaders or their religions. I know as I was once a scientific zealot but have seen the corruption from the inside, it really did hurt to wake up! I'm not saying it doesn't still go on, but I'm sure this happens less than it did. The internet has made almost everything transparent. Once upon a time you had no way of checking if this study or that trial was funded by a particular industry or whatever, it is easy to check sources these days. Science is the reason why we now are most likely to live longer, healthier lives - don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The way the spectrum works 5G actually reduces the amount of radiation exposure compared to 4G. 4G was a reduction from 3G and so on. Its been a while since i read that paper (prior to my original post so a while ago), but from what i saw each successive generation actually decreases the amount of radiation, its just upped the frequency of the wave, which has reduced the energy required and reduces the ability to penetrate (or something, i may be getting my facts muddled, but the gist was that 5G is less exposure than 4G, less than 3G etc.). We're still waiting for all those early adopters of mobile phones (back when they were still in briefcases) to get their cancers and they were exposed to way higher radiation levels. So... When do we stop looking and accept there isn't a problem. I can't agree that anti 5G are the same as anti vaxxers. There IS some evidence that radiation in the spectrum used by 5G can cause cancer in cells. Its just that these experiments don't mimic a real world scenario. There ISN'T any evidence that vaccines cause autism or anything else, with the rare exception of those with allergies (which is an acceptable risk due to herd immunity principles, i get vaxxed so the guy who cant because he's allergic doesn't have to). Flat Earthers, no evidence either. I had to look up what glyphosate was... If someone had said Roundup i would have been on the same page immediately. I have no problems with glyphosate, its Monsanto's business practices that I'm not so comfortable with. We do have our own researchers looking into the issue, but they don't expect to find anything other than what is theorized. Its not capable of penetrating the skin and the amount absorbed by the skin isn't enough to cause problems. Its important to remember CSIRO stands for Commonwealth Scientific INDUSTRIAL Research Organisation. They're pretty much there to represent big farms and the mining corporations. The guys who watch to make sure we dont make a mess of things is DEWNR, Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources.

Some people don't know this and its kind of useful to know, so here's a quick breakdown of how it works. Lets start with your kitchen microwave. You know that metal grill on the door that lets you see in? That stops microwave radiation from getting out. The amplitude of the wave (how far the wave travels up and down for one full cycle before it returns to its original point and starts the cycle again) is bigger than those holes. So in a time shorter than it would take the wave to travel across the thickness of that metal the wave moves from its lowest point to its highest point. As a result it cannot traverse this distance without colliding with the metal. So the metal reflects or absorbs the wave before it can get out of the microwave internal space. Physics. The holes in skin are much smaller than this. The amplitude of the radiation of 5G is smaller than microwaves, but not smaller than the holes in skin. As a result the radiation in 5G can't penetrate the skin. So it is absorbed by the skin. Now some people may come to the conclusion that if the radiation is absorbed by the skin, then the damage would simply occur there, and this is actually correct. But the amount of energy is so low that all it causes is a tiny increase in temperature (hardly even measurable by sensitive scientific equipment). Now its true that radiation of this frequency can cause cancers in cells as well as other effects like improper ion channel activation. but you have to remember that skin is multi-layered and importantly the outer layers are already dead. This is not by accident, its an evolutionary trait that developed to protect us from UV radiation in exactly the same way. UV radiation is 1000's of times smaller in amplitude and way higher in energy than 5G radiation, but the holes in the dead layers of skin are still smaller so the radiation is absorbed in the skin. So considering we don't all burst out in tumors every time we go out into the sun (i know skin cancer is a thing, but i refer you to the 1000's of time greater statement and compare that with the relatively low incidence of skin cancer) 5G just doesn't have the potential to cause cancer on any where near this level if at all. But if you really want to be sure that you're protected from 5G you can do the same as you would for a day on the beach... Slop on some sunscreen...

Ok here's my 2 cents worth.. some people will be sensitive to it.. long term effects will hard to measure. Brain development usually peaks at about 25yrs.. a baby born today could be exposed to this from birth. We wont known until that baby reaches 25 to see if it has effected development ..in that period it will be extremly hard to pin point a direct cause.
