A Kinky Twist To Stress Relief

When it comes to kinky or BDSM sex, we're still pretty closeted but we're getting more and more comfortable about it.

To some degree or other we all have freaky things we indulge in the boudoir. Maybe you like to get spanked, slapped around or have your balls tickled with a feather. We all have our preferences.



It turns out the kinky sex you have been secretly enjoying can do a lot more than get you off.

Oh yeah, science has found that it can actually help relieve stress.

How?

A new study conducted by researchers at Northern Illinois University found that BDSM sex, works to increase mindfulness, which reduces your stress levels.

When researchers looked at people engaging in BDSM style sex, they noticed that they were regularly entering a “flow state" of mindfulness, which is apparently the same mental state athletes get into when they’re “in the zone”

Below is lead author, Brad Sagarin, PH.D., explanation:

Flow is an enjoyable and pleasurable state that people get into when they are performing an activity that requires a high level of skill. It’s a state in which the rest of the world kind of fades away and somebody is concentrating very intensely only on what they are doing.


The researchers observed seven couples during their BDSM play and afterwards, they measured the couples’ stress, cortisol and testosterone levels, mood, feelings of closeness, and their “flow state” experiences.

The researchers found that the “flow state” phenomenon during this kind of sex is achieved. All of the participants reported better moods, showed lower levels of stress and scored highly on the flow state scale.

Sagarin offers some words of hope for the less kinky of us:

The mindful attention that people give to each other in the context of the BDSM scene has applications in other kinds of sexual interactions. If people are really focused on each other and the positive experience of their partner, we might see similar kinds of effects.

Lesson here people; stop wasting your money on yoga or meditation lessons, when all you need is some good, adventurous lovemaking to relieve that stress.
