How Sleep Affects Your Sex Life

Sex and sleep are both conducted in the bedroom (well most of the time) so it’s only fitting that there are some natural links between the two. It’s common knowledge that more sleep means more energy, but did you know that more sleep also means more sex? Your libido is much higher when you are more rested, so if there wasn’t enough motivation for you to hit the hay for 8 hours a night, surely this will send you to zzz land before you can say “increased sex drive”.

It’s also vital that the bedroom only be used for sleep and sex. Stimulus like work and TV will only serve to keep you awake and make the room less romantic. If you stick to these rules then your brain will become more accustomed to know that it is supposed to sleep and get funky in this particular room. If something in the bedroom is preventing you from sleeping, such as a giant clock on the wall, then remove it. Make the room a sexy boudoir and you’ll reap the benefits.

Another fantastic benefit of bonking the night away is that if you have sex, there’s pretty good evidence that it’s easier to get to sleep and that sleep is deep. It seems that sex is an arousing, stimulating thing, but maybe it causes a drop in body temperature right afterwards and it’s easy to get to sleep,” (Patricia Murphy, PhD). Sex produces deep sleep inducing endorphins, so you’ll be nodding off in no time. So now the men finally have an excuse for falling asleep right after sexercise!

Then when you do fall asleep, make sure you aren’t having sleep sex! Yes, you read right, there is such a thing. Sleep sex, a.k.a. sexsomnia, is a form of parasomnia that causes people to commit sexual acts while they are asleep (source: wikipedia). So if you’re partner leans over in the middle of the night, just make sure you shake them to double check that they’re awake!! Otherwise they may have no recollection of the fantastic midnight munchies the next morning!
