Nearly got scammed

November 25 2014

Nearly got scammed tonight...

Emailed a user without images. Didn't hear back for a couple of weeks. Then she gets back, shows pics, very nice, says she didn't put them up to avoid getting tons of messages. Fair enough. Says she is a model. Hmmm. Still a possibility.

Exchanged typical, plain english chat (ie no dodgy grammar/spelling). Moved onto Skype.

More typical chat, moving towards more raunchy conversation.

After a while, the idea of a safe meeting is discussed. Then the clincher: for her "safety", I need to ge an ID from her sponsor/agency. SCAM ALERT! I rope her along a bit more, getting an ID is from a website, and she asks for it in very odd grammar. ID costs $7. YEAH RIGHT! SCAM ALERT! Link is ... Let's see, googles... some promo site but more to do with money/discounts. Oh wait here, actual link redirects quickly a few times to another similar site... OK, sorry love, you're blocked and reported now!!!!

Not the first time a scammer has tried to get me and failed, and not the first one claiming to be a model, but this one took the most time and effort (2 hours), including multiple matching images, and realistic conversation. Or perhaps she is actually the equivalent of a telemarketer for these sites. Or a sophisticated bot.

Should have put it in the "too good to be true" category.
Also missed the first typical sign of a scammer: *pretty girl wants to get to know me*.

On another site, I was bombarded with messages about getting some kind of ID...usually from "site admin" or "customer care". My standard response to such messages was "F#%k off, scammer!"
A couple of them actually replied and threatened to delete my account, and one got really nasty when I called their bluff..
Once I'd had my fun, I reported them...not that anything happened about it.

many people get sucked in by scammers. The naive people that other people don't believe exist on here. They must actually get a good success rate preying on people on these sites, hitting them when they are vulnerable and blinded by lust.

You did the right thing, if you did anything else no body would believe you anyway. They would just think you have an ax to grind.
Let RHP sort it out is all you can do. They eventually work out who is doing what, but sometimes a lot of damage is done in the mean while. You were smart enough to pick up on it, many are not.
If it looks to good to be true, then you all know the rest.
If a person is that good looking they can get more sex than hot meals offline, they do not need the internet. Just go to the local pub sit on a bar stool and they will come.
Bit different though if your a couple, live in a small town and also do not have time to shop offline, that way its online shop a cock.

Vulnerable people, people who just don't imagine that it could ever happen to them, are the perfect targets for scammers.. There was recently a programme on the ABC where the presenter went to Nigeria to track down some scammers...he was successful in having them charged...but even with all the evidence in front of him,one of their victims still found it hard to believe..Sad xxFreya

    "She loves me!!!"

Yep she does....it's just she loves what you will do for her more....

Love is a powerful promise....so is sex....

It's pretty easy nowadays to spot the cunts.

Just to confirm, this wasn't on RHP. But there are no forums to discuss it where it was.

Actually reminds me of a joke: "Scammer got hold of my credit card details recently. I haven't cancelled it, because at the moment they're spending less than my wife!"

Yes I agree, but it's a bit sad to have to put "nice girl wants to meet you" in the "too good to be true" basket...

How about you go post in the undies thread, with a public pic of you in your undies and let the ladies judge if your pics pass muster?

I have had these before on a similar site. They get their money from affiliate payments for luring in new accounts.
The other common one I have seen is camgirls wanting to give you a free cam show so you can boost their ratings. The free account is anything but. And if they give you a link and you tell them you already have a membership on that site, they try and get you to a different site so they can get the affiliate payment.

Unfortunately in my experience, if a girl in her twenties approaches me, it will be a scam.
Any young real ladies out there looking for a sugar daddy? ;)

I got an email from a guy in Benin (next to Nigeria) last week who was a doctor AND a reverend, promising me well over a million bucks if I would fill out a list of personal details and mail it back to him.

It was brilliant in its awfulness.

I got one of those scammers approach during sexpo a few years ago (during sexpo, but not AT sexpo) posing as a performer and that they were offering 'meetings' after hours. They were doing well with knowing enough about my location so it was amusing to keep the chatter going to see where they would go with it... but then they fell down not understanding that the local "hotel" is a pub, not somewhere you would stay for a week.

Certainly not married, but I love my dog to bits

As for pictures and undies... you can't win 'em all, and I'm not worried if I don't attract men.

I saw a pic of a known scammer on here and reported him. So look out for odd English usage, overly romantic/niceness, the stories of woe or asking for credit card details or 'help' of any kind.

    scammed around 8 years ago.
I didn't know about scammers then I was so green on dating sites I wanted to believe.
And I have to admit he got me.
And as things go you learn the hard way.
Then I went on another datingsite and this one tried to blackmail me but then I was a bit more knowledgeable and went to the police.
It was horrible the nasty stuff which came.
lol and then I found RHP.
I be honest, what pisses me off is all this dating sites take our money, why is there not a stricter rule to join.
I think there could be things in place where they could check you are the person you say you are.
I know its money, its sad, I learned, this will never happen to me again, still it hurt.

Talked to some guys at another meet today, most seem to have had experience in either being successfully scammed or having had someone attempt to scam them.

Reminds me of a quote: "If you spot someone as a con-artist, they aren't very good at it".

P.S. Wasn't imitating anyone, just the best I could manage via self-timer camera shot.

I joked with a friend recently that I only get messages from scammers on online dating sites (not here though, I never get messages on here). Well, since I had some time I thought why not play along. Some of them are very formulaic but some I got were really, really good. If I didn't know better, I would have thought they were really keen on me rather than on my bank account. One only talked about money after 10 emails. Wow, I thought that took a lot of patience and building a rapport with the victim.
I do know a few people who fell victim to scammers. It is hard for friends as well as when I tried to tell her to be careful, she got all defensive and said it was none of my business and trying to take away her happiness. After that, some of them just keep away rather than admit they got suckered.

Does anyone know the angle with people taking the chat to kik then giving a meeting spot which is clearly not going to happen because it’s to easy. But what do you think the scam is, just a fuck around or lead in to get money later?
