Girls Females Women...

... are the three most commonly used terms on here for delineating estrogen-rich humans.

I Usually use "women" because "estrogen-rich humans" is a mouthful (and may offend some post-menopausal women), "girls", although a bit warmer, strikes me as patronising, and "females" sounds zoological.

There's also "ladies", but really, only the Beastie Boys can pull that off.

What's your preference girlswomenfemalesladies?

I don't mind

It doesn't worry me if you say girl, woman or lady.

I heard a guy say to someone last night that he would have to check with the "cook".

My girlfriends and I all thought that was derogatory. So don't use that. Ever

Personally

I like 'girls', even though it's been many, many years since I was young enough to qualify as a girl lol. Women/woman is fine. Female/s should only be said in a David Attenborough voice as in: 'the female of the species'... very zoological term to me too. Ladies... meh, not a fan either... brings my mom to mind.

CM... yikes. Brave man.

Personally

I think 'women' is the most appropriate, but I know I tend to use 'girls' and 'chicks' as well in casual and informal situations or online discussions. It's when men use 'girls' in an infantilising way - and you can tell when they're doing it - that I get annoyed.

Re 'females' - I've noticed so many of the MRA types in online discussions use 'female', because it's depersonalising and othering. Many of those types of men don't really see women as equal human beings and it's reflected in the language they use. For that reason I'm always wary of guys who consistently refer to women as 'females'.

I am

A woman. Not a lady, not a chick and certainly not a girl.I am the female of the species but don't wish to be referred to that as such.As Ms Dragon says ,it is "othering" or distancing. Q

You can call me anything you like!

... however if you refer to me in pleural because you don't understand the difference between woman and women, I get a little ... judgemental.

Ma'am and Madam make me grind my teeth, but Love and Darl are condescending terms that truly shit me to tears. Dependent upon setting, almost anything else goes!

I am

woman hear me roar 🎼🎷

Depends on age when I'm using a term. I like chicks for younger women and woman for older women. On the receiving end, it depends on context and who's talking to me, but I like mostly other terms from close friends πŸ˜‰ babe or their dirty little slut lol love that. But as an example of context, if a guy told me I was a beautiful woman, that works for me πŸ˜€ but if a stranger said 'have a look at that woman' translation 'look at her arse hanging out of her shorts' doesn't have quite the same ring to it πŸ˜€

Really hate being called a lady, that gets my hackles up πŸ˜‰

The UD got both ''biddie'' and ''biddy'' on the list...they don't miss much and damn if I'm either that creative or energetic to try to compile a list like that as I've soooo many more important things to do, like go start dinner!

Considering

I am a woman, I'd like to be referred to as one. Calling me a girl will likely get you an eye-roll.

As for being called a female: it's a word that could refer to the child-bearing sex of any species, and I find it therefore both dehumanising and degrading.
I'm a human being, not just some animal with a uterus. (Same goes for being called animal names btw, like chick or bird).

From a great article on Tumblr a while go:

"The word "female," in its primary usage, is an adjective. When you use "female" as a noun, the subject that you're referring to is erased.

For example:
"I talked to a female yesterday."
A female what? A female kangaroo? A female rock snake? The subject of the sentence is not clear.

"I talked to a female presidential candidate yesterday."
This sentence is now about a human being."

It takes a lot more to offend me personally, though looking at which men say women and which ones say females is a great screening tool.
I just wouldn't be compatible with men who choose to refer to women as anything other than "women".

In non-specific conversation...

...I prefer to call them ladies and at times, my lady. Jearzus if there were ever a DVD made of some of what happens the word ''lady'' would dissipate as rapidly as the word ''gentleman''.

Really though, I like real names for real people and if I've gone to generalities then I may need to re-check my luggage at the gate before the flight.

We only get one shot at this miracle we call life so let's live it as fully and intimately as possible.

Best........ CM

I am Woman...hear me roar

I am Girl...hear me roar,
just doesnt have the same ring to it.

Yet, Girlfriend - Boyfriend sounds just right compared to Womanfriend - Manfriend.

All depends on context for me.
