  I can tell you that the BDSM scene is very welcoming to newbies and onlookers. It is perfectly ok to watch and BDSM events are very social. Just make sure you read the event rules - be respectful of people involved in scenes, don't touch equipment or people that don't belong to you and feel free to ask questions once a scene is over, equipment is packed up and the aftercare is done (common sense yes, but you'd be surprised)
  I mostly go to BDSM events to socialise and watch - I rarely play. Most people dress up a bit so a mask wouldn't be out of place. Good luck in finding a place to go - I suggest you try Fetlife they have a events listing on there.

  I was at a swingers club in Sydney called Our Secret Spot a while ago and they had an area where a couple were performing it was amazing to watch the lady was tied on the cross and the guy was whopping g her with lots of different items, maybe try there if you want to watch 😊

  I think the biggest regular Sydney fet play events that would have impact scenes you seem interested in, are Tryst, Chamber and Threshold. There is also Hellfire which is a club night that does have a couple of areas for scenes, but is predominately a club / social night. There are often events at Studio Kink as well, usually more along the lines of education, and skill sharing, but they do put on performances as well - predominately Shibari. But neither of these events seem to line up with the week you're in town. I'd recommend trying to get to Sydney for one of these events. Tryst, Hellfire, Studio Kink and Threshold can be found in FB. And all but Hellfire (in terms of event notification) are in fetlife. I'd recommend going to fetlife, putting your location as Sydney (and Newcastle - as I have zero idea of what is going on there) then looking at events. There are probably quite a few private parties, one regular I am aware of, but I haven't attended any of these.
  And there is absolutely no reason to be worried about these events. I turned up to three of fetish play party events on my own, as a newbie and didn't feel worried at all. People are very friendly and welcoming. I actually much prefer the fet scene to the sex party / swinging scene, for the relaxed, friendly vibe, to be honest. There would be absolutely no pressure to participate. Most scenes are done by established dynamics, who have a scene all set up to do in a public place. They're not the habit of roping in (yah, I went there) some unexpected, new person.
  PushLimits - my understanding is that temple22 and kastle offer Pro Dom / Domme services, rather than events that onlookers can attend. They'd be interesting as they have an amazing fet set up.
