No

We don't find them sexy nor attractive. But then we don't like grafitti either.

Nope

Not my thing, but it's none of my business for people who do love and have tattoos 😊

Respect is the key to harmony ☺️

Like everything else

It depends on context. In this case, where it is and what it is of.

Some are ok, others aren't, IMHO.

Yes!

Definitely sexy and edgy but of course it also depends on the tattoos. Some are just works of art - hence deserving of the term body art

There are some great tattoos and so fascinating to hear stories behind them. And then there are some that look like were drawn up by their mate high on crack cocaine and gone to town on drawing on their mate who fell asleep after a binge. yikes! 😁

Personally I won't do it as I'm not a fan of pain and needles. And I wondered able to decide on the tattoos as knowing it's permanent, I really need to be sure it is.the right one. Maybe names of my kids and my mom. Maybe... πŸ˜‰

Not a fan.

Now they're so common it's boring. Very occasionally something really creative takes my eye, but sexy ? One lady on a train years ago and one lady on here. That's it.

No stickers on this Ferrari !

Love them or hate them.

..... but would hardly compare a tattoo to graffiti...

Many races of people traditionally are tattooed as a display of cultural origin and personal status..even in Medieval history. For many it tells a story. For some it's an expression of who they are. For some, it's a memorial of who they have lost.

Gee....tough one. Wondering if a Tattooist would enjoy being cast in the same mould as a graffiti artist.

Great post chevtrek. Look forward to more responses

For some it's a heartfelt tale of that culturally significant rites of passage - that time they wore a Bintang singlet and rode a moped drunk, so beautiful and culturally significant, you really do have to appreciate culture, right...

Anyway, denigrating graffiti artists is as silly as saying "even a child can scrawl all over themselves with an ink pen, but very few people can create amazing street murals or the myriad effects and gradients some can with a spray can".

I imagine many graffiti artists and tattoo artists have a great deal of respect for each other, or to have the general worldwide recognition of Banksy.

A kid scrawling a tag with a spray can is as masterful as just scrawling with a tattoo gun (the latter is just harder come by, you likely can't take it out of Dad's shed). But they're not "artists", some tattoo work is just as artful as graffiti or fine art painting.

Yes but

It depends on the quality of the work and the person. If it suits the person and its not a blurry sun damaged mess I think people can look great with tattoos especially if a lot of thought and creativity has gone into the design. But if its a cliche work, offensive or just plain cheap and ugly well thats a different story. Southern Cross.... just no....I guess all tattoos tell the story of the person and where they were in life when they got them. That is interesting to me.

Yes

Like all forms of artwork, I find some more appealing than the other, and overall I'm a bit of a fan.

I have two, of which only one is occasionally visible. One was done after a lot of thought and was designed by the tattoo artist, the other was a 20 year old's idea of a bit of spontaneous fun. I dont' think one is more relevant and meaningful as the other. I was once 20 and now I'm 40, a bit of retained ink is just a small visible reminder of a life lived. My 20s were great fun :) If someone has me in doggy and spanks my ass, they might just ask me why I have a certain image there. One of many stories I might tell them

Graffiti? Pfft. But then I don't think a bit of art on a wall at the Guggenheim isn't necessarily quantitatively different to a bit of street art on the walls of the streets of Newtown. Been to and enjoy them both.

Tattoo prejudice...

Prejudice in any form is a pet peeve of mine.

I have met some amazing men and women with tattoos. Some were perhaps errors of judgement when they were younger, others pieces of amazing art while others have a true and heartfelt meaning to the person. Some may not be beautiful or artistic to me and I'm not a fan of neck or face tattoos for aesthetic reasons of my own. Doesn't necessarily mean that person is a bad person or an idiot or unattractive.

However, they are a part of that person and their history - it's part of what makes them who they are.

I have tattoos that do not show when I am clothed. They mean a great deal to me and were a rite of passage after an absolutely terrible and dark time in my life. If that turns off a lover then that is their loss as it shows me they are looking at the surface not what lies beneath. They are a part of my life and my body. My choice to put an indelible sign on on my body that shows the courage of my convictions.

It is a personal choice to tattoo or not and I respect each person's freedom to do so. Just do it safely and with awareness - and preferably some thought! ;)

I used to be one of them boring closed minded people ...

Thankfully , that changed.. Being of part islander decent I started to appreciate the meaning of tribal art. It took approx 6 years from the time I started looking to the day I took the plunge.

Why 6 years ? Because I was considering everyone else's opinion and ignoring my own. On top of that it took me that long to finally settle on what I wanted. I didn't just open a book and put my finger on the first thing that excited me. I took my time . I've now had my tribal tatt 2 years and have no regrets whatsoever .

Most who see it are in favour. Even my older old fashion sister who turned her nose up, finally came around.

I can't think of any females I know or have met say anything negative and I love it when they slowly trace it with their finger its a definate turn on..

It is a art form when done right , even I get peeved when I see tatt overkill. Moderation is the key.

Dynamic Couple.. I find your comment insulting. If you got nothing good to say , keep it to yourself or share it with other likeminded negative people.. Can't help but think it's only Mr DC we ever hear from ?

Jayme

Before you join the others on the proverbial band wagon, we did not denigrate nor insult tattoos. So kindly stop becoming defensive and taking offence.

Chev simply asked a question and we answered. We are entitled to our opinion.

We don't like tattoos and we don't like general grafitti, as the latter can become messy and an eyesore (in our opinion ) Banksy however is another story.

Does this make us boring, losers, closed minded, prejudiced & superficial ?

Tattoos are merely skin deep are they not ? Superficial skin decoration ?

We feel, that in many instances, there is a parallel between tattoos & grafitti, in so many ways. It is our opinion and we are entitled to it.

Yes we are pretty sure that some tattoos do tell a story, a right of passage. But then so does some grafitti.

You get good grafitti and then you get bad grafitti, just as you get good art & bad art. The same applies to tattoos.

We have seen some very "messy" ones, where more and more have been added over the years, and the result to us, looks like a proverbial fruit salad. But then we have also seen some well thought out, well designed & meticulously implemented tattoos.

Fortunately we all have different likes, dislikes, tastes & opinions, to which we are entitled. We prefer circumcised penisis for example. Are you going to attack us for this too ? Clearly a chip on the shoulder in our opinion. Clearly bandwagoning as expected.

Yes ...

On men or women :)

Call me shallow but the art on ones body doesn't define a person for me. It tells me a little about them and their story :) I have 3, two reasonably larger ones and a small one - to like me is to like all of me, tattoos and all.

I'm my very close minded circle of family and some friends they find them abhorrent, that only the 'low life types' have them. I'm an upstanding citizen, highly respected in my community and I'm a decent person.

My tattoos were done in my 40s, it's my story of a part of my life where I've been exceptionally happy 😊 Most people who've seen them, in particular comment on the terrific art work.

Agree with you Jayme

I also found the comment to be offensive but the popcorn comment just assured me how condescending and closeminded people like them can really be.

I also love how people use the "I'm entitled to my opinion" card to be a twat.

One big difference is...

Tattooed people don't mind if you're not tattooed.
